ocg's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DOG ATE TAMPON So, after a weekend where I thought I saw the.. ahem. On Sunday, Aurora passed what appeared to be the string and some fiber, although somehow the poop mysteriously disappeared between the time I saw her go and the time I got back to check it out. I've sunken to a totally new low, with paper towel and wooden skewer in hand, hunting around a tree base, looking for a dog poop that I swore was RIGHT. THERE. A. MINUTE. AGO. The neighbors probably called a watch meeting to discuss my potential mental issues, but this is my DOG, maaan! I have to make sure she's okay! The facts that Aurora was still eating and still pooping with some regularity helped us concluded that the worst had passed and that she was probably going to be fine. Then came Monday. Matt told me when I got home that, "Aurora got her tampon out today." Preeety. So, being the poopologist that I am, I aksed, "Where is it?" We didn't find it as it had already gotten too dark to locate, but Matt called me excitedly on Tueday. "I found the poop! I'll show you later!" When I got home, he Lewis & Clarke'd me over to the spot, and lo, the nastiness that was. I have to admit that I took a picture of it with my cameraphone. I had intended on posting the picture here, but really? I don't think anyone wants to see it that bad. Suffice it to say, we are pleased. AND NOW, for all of you that will google this page when it happens to you: Do NOT freak out. You are not alone. Aurora is a 1 1/2 year old 15-17 pound Boston Terrier/ Chihuahua mix. Dog ate tampon. We gave her Laxa-Stat daily, found at most pet stores, and monitered her food and water intake and, er- output. It was also suggested to give her a teaspoon of petroleum jelly a day as a solution (we chose the Laxa-Stat). Dog ate tampon. It took four days for the tampon to pass. If your dog eats a tampon and then stops eating, or begins vomiting (not necessarily vomiting up the tampon), you NEED TO TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET. They probably have a bowel obstruction, which can be fatal if left untreated. Dog ate tampon. And that, my preeties, is the end of the poop here, hopefully for some time.
